Hello from Bridport. As Simon and I travel along this beautiful coast, sitting in our trusty campervan Weston, I have had some quiet moments to reflect on why we started this journey. Weston is compact, and when you are living and working in a small space, you are forced to simplify. You quickly learn what is actually essential and what is simply clutter.
It is a beautiful, grounded way to live, but it stands in stark contrast to the modern business world. Out there, the noise is deafening. Entrepreneurs, especially those starting out, are bombarded with endless demands, complex strategies, and overwhelming advice. We are told we need to buy this software, follow that funnel, and master ten different social media platforms just to stand a chance. But just like packing too much gear into Weston, adding more clutter to your business does not make the journey any smoother. In fact, it usually just weighs you down.
The Lucrative Lie of the Guru Shortcut
Let us talk honestly about the myth of the shortcut. The business coaching and marketing industry is built on a very lucrative lie. It is the idea that there is a secret key to success, a hidden blueprint, or a fast track that only a select few gurus possess. They pack these secrets into high-ticket masterclasses, seven-step programs, and expensive courses, selling them to people who are often already stretched to their absolute limits.
For neurodivergent founders, this trap is particularly magnetic. When you are struggling with executive function, facing massive decision paralysis, or feeling the heavy weight of demand avoidance, a step-by-step blueprint looks like an absolute lifeline. It promises to do the thinking for you. It promises that if you just follow the steps, everything will work out.
But here is the truth that the consultants and course sellers will never tell you: those blueprints were not designed for your brain. They are built on rigid, neurotypical frameworks that assume your energy levels, cognitive patterns, and emotional responses are completely linear. When you try to force yourself to fit into their pre-packaged boxes, the system fails. And because we are so used to feeling like we do not fit, we blame ourselves instead of blaming the broken system.
Your Brain is Not Broken
Your brain is not broken. The systems are the barrier, not you.
The very things that make a neurodivergent mind different are often the exact strengths that make you a brilliant entrepreneur. We are creative, intuitive, highly empathetic, and capable of incredible hyperfocus when we are aligned with something we truly care about. We see connections that others miss, and we are driven by a deep sense of purpose.
Yet, traditional business advice tells us to ignore these instincts. It tells us to average out our messaging, to adopt sterile corporate tones, and to follow rigid routines that trigger our nervous systems into a state of panic or avoidance.
When you stop looking for external shortcuts and start trusting your own cognitive landscape, everything changes. Your brain becomes your best business partner. It knows when you have the energy to create and when you need to rest. It knows how to speak to your customers with genuine empathy because you understand what it feels like to struggle with systems that do not fit. Your instincts are not a liability, they are your competitive advantage.
Ditching the "Have To" Rules
To truly partner with your brain, you have to let go of the traditional have to rules of business.
You do not have to show up on social media every single day if it drains your battery to zero. You do not have to use high-pressure sales tactics that make you feel sick to your stomach. You do not have to build a giant, fifty-page business plan before you can start testing your ideas.
At Inkie, we believe in taking the dread out of marketing and putting the fun back into business. We believe that marketing should feel like a natural conversation, not a high-stress performance. That is why we built our platform to handle the repetitive, procedural admin that drains neurodivergent executive function, leaving you free to focus on what you actually enjoy.
When we simplify our approach, we make space for our natural creativity to shine. We do not need a complex, over-engineered marketing funnel to find our people. We just need to show up honestly, share our genuine expertise, and build trust over time with the individuals who resonate with our mission.
Building Your Business on Your Own Terms
This philosophy is the beating heart of my book, The ND Business: Build a Business the Neurodivergent Way. I did not write it to give you another rigid blueprint to follow. I wrote it to help you dismantle the rules that are holding you back and give you the practical tools to build a business on your own terms.
It covers the essentials, like naming, pricing, and marketing, but it does so from a place of deep neuroinclusion. It recognises that cognitive traits like demand avoidance, decision paralysis, and rejection sensitivity are real, and it offers practical ways to work with them rather than trying to fix them.
You can find The ND Business: Build a Business the Neurodivergent Way on Amazon. If you are tired of the hustle culture, the empty promises of marketing gurus, and the pressure to conform, I hope this book serves as a comforting, rebellious guide for your journey.
Trust the Process
So, as we spend our quiet days in Bridport, watching the rain tap on Weston’s windows and enjoying the simplicity of life on the road, my message to you is simple: trust yourself. Ditch the expensive shortcuts, ignore the sterile blueprints, and start listening to your own marvellous brain. You already have everything you need to build something beautiful, honest, and wonderfully imperfect. Let us build it your way.
